Indeed, consider the warning of Jesus:
Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. (Matt. 7:13-14)
In other words, there will be more people in hell than there are in heaven.
Therefore, the Christianity one reads about in the New Testament will never be popular with the masses. The masses do not appreciate the things of God’s Word. They consider it irrelevant, outdated, worthy of mockery, contempt, dismissal (Matt. 5:10-12; 2 Tim. 3:12).
Preachers, “preach the Word” (2 Tim. 4:2a). Do so when people agree with it and when they disagree with it (2 Tim. 4:2b). “Reprove, rebuke, and exhort” while doing so (2 Tim. 4:2c), and do so patiently and instructively (2 Tim. 4:2d). Do so knowing that there will be many “who will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths” (2 Tim. 4:3-4). In other words, many – likely most (Matt. 7:13-14) of those who hear you would rather hear someone who tells them what they want to hear instead of the truth. Preach the truth of God’s Word anyway (John 17:17).
Biblical Christianity will never be popular here on earth.
In heaven, however, it’s the only game in town.
