Christ Died For The Ungodly

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person – though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die – but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:6-8 – Scripture of the Day (March 10, 2014)

No more powerful statement of love can be found anywhere.  Not even the famous John 3:16 verse surpasses the magnitude of what Paul says here, because in this passage it is made very clear that the Father and the Son love the world so much that they were willing to make this supreme sacrifice…for people who did not love them back.  Jesus was willing to die for you and me, people who were not his friends, people who weren’t righteous but were ungodly sinners, his enemies.

What powerful love is shown here!

The question now is this:  How much do we love God?  Do we love him because he first loved us?  (1 John 4:19)  Do we obey him out of loving gratitude for all he does for us?  (John 14:15)
