The Reason We’re Here

Why are you here?  What’s the purpose of your existence?  What is my life supposed to be about?  What’s my top goal in life?  Have you ever had these questions directly asked to you?  Have you ever taken the time to think about the answers?

Many times Christians have been told about the purpose of life…but do we take it literally?  Yes, we may know the right answer…but do we actually think about it?  Do we actually live it?  Can something truly be our purpose in life if we rarely think about it and don’t live it?  Certainly not…

God’s Word tells us what our purpose in life is.  “The end of the matter; all has been heard.  Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man” (Eccl. 12:13).  We are to fear God, which refers both to terror of him (Rom. 2:3-10; 2 Cor. 5:10-11) and giving him honor and reverence (Matt. 6:9; Heb. 12:28).  We are also to obey him (John 14:15; Heb. 5:9).  His commandments are found in the Scriptures (2 Tim. 3:16-17).

There are many who are religious, many who read their Bibles a lot and praise Jesus as their Lord…but who will still find themselves lost on the last day because they heard his Word but didn’t do it (Matt. 7:21-27; James 1:22-25).  They might have known of their purpose in life, but they were actually living it out.

What about you?  Do you know why you are here?  But even more importantly, are you living out your purpose in life?

Choose to fear God.  Choose to keep his commandments…all of them.  That is how you make your life the best and most fulfilling that it can be.
